SEO for a medical practice usually costs a few hundred to a few thousand dollars a month. In an Ahrefs poll of SEO providers, the most common monthly retainer was $501 to $1,000, the most common hourly rate was $75 to $100, and the most common project fee was $2,501 to $5,000. What you should pay depends on how many services and offices need work, not on a package name. SEO (search engine optimization) is the work of getting your pages and Google listing found when patients search, without paying per click.
At Brand Lift 360, SEO isn't a separate line item. It is part of our managed marketing plans, alongside ads, your website and AI search. See what our local SEO for medical practices covers.
How SEO Is Priced
There are three common models. Ahrefs, which makes SEO software, polled 439 SEO providers across industries; its figures are below.
| Model | How it works | Most common price in the poll | Fits when |
|---|---|---|---|
| Monthly retainer | Ongoing work billed every month | $501 to $1,000 a month (20.4% of providers) | You want new pages, profile work and reporting every month |
| Hourly | You pay for time | $75 to $100 an hour (24%); 90% charge $150 or less | Your own team does the work and needs advice |
| Project | One fixed job | $2,501 to $5,000 (21.2%) | You need one thing done, like an audit or a set of service pages |
Experience moves the price. The average retainer was $1,540.52 for providers in business two years or less and $3,648.28 for those in business five to ten years. The poll covers every industry, so treat it as a range, not a medical benchmark.
What Medical Practice SEO Should Include
Whatever you pay, the work should cover the things that put a practice in front of local patients:
- Your Google Business Profile. The free listing that shows your practice in Google Maps: correct categories, services, hours, photos and booking link.
- One page per main service or treatment, with what it is, who performs it, what the visit is like and how to book.
- Provider pages with real credentials.
- A fair review process that asks every patient.
- Technical fixes: speed, mobile layout, broken links and booking paths.
- AI search visibility, so ChatGPT and Google's AI answers can name you. This is called AEO, answer engine optimization.
- Monthly reporting on calls, forms and booked appointments, not just rankings.
Our 9 SEO fixes for medical practices walks through each one in order.

How Long Before SEO Pays Off?
Fixes close to the booking, such as wrong hours, a broken booking link or a missing service page, can help within weeks. Rankings for competitive treatment searches usually take months to build. We report every month on calls, forms and booked appointments, so you can see what is moving long before the rankings settle.
Red Flags When Buying SEO
Google's own advice on hiring an SEO is blunt: "No one can guarantee a #1 ranking on Google." Walk away from anyone who promises one, claims a special relationship with Google or sells "priority" submission.
Google suggests asking these questions before you hire:
- Can you show examples of your previous work?
- Do you follow Google Search Essentials?
- What results do you expect, by when, and how will you measure them?
- What experience do you have in my industry and my area?
- Will you tell me every change you make to my site, and why?
Add one of your own: what do I keep if we part ways? With us, your ad accounts, Google Business Profile, domain and data are always yours.

Common Questions About SEO Costs
How much does SEO cost per month for a medical practice?
Most practices pay a monthly retainer somewhere between a few hundred and a few thousand dollars. In an Ahrefs poll of SEO providers, the most common retainer was $501 to $1,000 a month. With us, SEO is part of our managed marketing plans, which start at $1,499 a month and also cover ads, your website and AI search.
Why do SEO prices vary so much?
Scope and experience. A practice with ten treatments and two offices needs far more pages than a single-service office, and providers with more years in business charge more. In the Ahrefs poll, the average retainer was $1,540.52 for providers in business two years or less and $3,648.28 for those in business five to ten years.
Is SEO cheaper than Google Ads?
They are priced differently. With ads you pay for every click, and a single click on a Sacramento dental implant search averaged $56.88 in the Google data we pulled in October 2026. SEO is a fixed monthly cost that builds visibility you do not pay for per click, but it takes longer to show results.
Can I do medical practice SEO myself?
You can do the basics: keep your Google Business Profile accurate, give each main service its own page and ask every patient for a review. The ongoing work of new pages, technical fixes and reporting is where most practice owners run out of time.
Does AI search visibility cost extra?
Not with us. AEO, the work of getting your practice named in ChatGPT and Google's AI answers, is included in both of our managed marketing plans. Elsewhere it is often sold as a separate service, so ask what is included.
What to Do This Week
If you pay for SEO now, pull last month's report and look for three numbers: calls, forms and booked appointments from search. If the report only shows rankings and traffic, ask your provider for those three. If you don't pay for SEO yet, list your five most profitable services and check whether each has its own page.
